3 Tips For Work/Life Sanity: Automate, Delegate, Let Go - Part 2
Week Two:
Delegate
I have coached hundreds of professional women from a wide variety of backgrounds. One of the most common denominators amongst these women is a constant feeling of being off balance and a desire for more ease and less frustration in their daily lives.
Can you relate?! I thought so!
To help you immediately get more work/life sanity, I’ve developed a three-part exercise. This exercise is titled: Automate, Delegate, Let Go. Each step allows you to remove items from that never-ending to do list. The idea being, of course, the fewer things you have to do, the easier your life will be to manage.
Once you eliminate these “time stealers”, you’ll have more time and energy to focus on what’s really important to you – in both your personal and professional life.
Watch for any feelings of resistance that pop up as you read these tips. To truly have more ease and less frustration, you’re going to have to give up some control. Don’t let an unnecessary need to hang on prevent you from experiencing work/life balance.
Tip # 2: Delegate
The second tip for work/life sanity is: Delegate. This, of course, means assigning the task to someone else. Got to love that!
You can delegate tasks in both your personal and work life. Here are some examples:
Delegation Examples - Personal:
- Hire a service to clean your home
- Delegate your grocery shopping to www.peapod.com
- Have your weekly laundry done by a laundry service
Delegation Examples - Work:
- If you have an assistant, delegate as much as you possibly can to them without guilt or hesitation – if you’re holding back on handing anything over – delegate it immediately
- If you don’t have an assistant, hire an intern or make use of the office intern who’s already on board. They will thank you for it. Even if the project is something you consider menial, it’s still a learning opportunity for them.
If you think hard and are honest with yourself, I bet you can identify at least one thing to delegate at work and one thing to delegate in your personal life. Right now, take 60 seconds to identify one thing you will delegate at work and one thing you will delegate at home.
Once you identify your items, make plans to implement your delegation tasks this week.
I know you can do it! Next week, I’ll share specifics on work/life sanity tip number three – Let Go!
Until next week…
To Your Continued Success,
Maret
