Let’s Talk Jewelry!

Let’s talk jewelry! Yes, diamonds are a girls best friend but this season so are pearls, gold, layering of multiple necklaces, gem stones in every color and costume jewelry when you can’t find (or afford) the real thing. Although we all love jewelry, it is meant to be an accessory, meaning a compliment to your outfit. Here are some tips on how to get it right.

Know your audience
Another appropriate title here would be “know your occasion”. What I mean by this is simple….you can’t wear your 5 carat cocktail ring to a casual holiday open house at the neighbors. However, if you are lucky enough to own one of these fabulous items (or sister - the costume version) it is completely appropriate to wear it to the black tie holiday party. Keep your look, including your jewelry right for the occasion. Too much glitz in the wrong place comes off as tacky and no one is aiming for that description.

Keep it simple
Yes, the KISS theory does apply to jewelry and your wardrobe. Everything looks great with black. Colored stones look wonderful with outfits in the same or a tonal color palate. Do not overdo it. For example, if layering necklaces then have one at your collar, one at your chest and one in between the two. For a classy and elegant look go for a diamond pendant or a string of pearls. Both always look great and dress up an outfit instantly. Do not wear a ring on every finger. My rule with rings is that you get to don one finger on each hand and that is it. This includes your wedding ring finger so choose wisely.

Like shoes, jewelry can change the overall look of an outfit instantly. Take some time to try your holiday outfits out with different styles of jewelry to find what you like best.

Until next week…don’t forget to look in the mirror and smile with satisfaction at what you see.

Enjoy your Holidays!
Andrea
