Cruising In Style

This month we are going to talk about vacations.  If you aren’t taking one now, then you will be one day (hopefully soon) so it makes sense to read on!  We all fantasize about vacations and in that future vacation you look fabulous.  This week we talk about what to pack when you are going on a cruise.  For those that live in warmer climates some of the tips below apply to transition dressing as the seasons change as well.

Get excited!  You are going on a cruise!

Assuming you are going somewhere warm, the first thing that comes to mind is to pack a bathing suit.  For the select few… this gets people excited.  For the rest….never fear! There are very few select people outside of Hollywood and Las Vegas that look like models.  You are joining a crowd of normal curvaceous women.  Be confident! This alone will carry you far.  There is no simple easy answer for swimsuit shopping.  You must try on all shapes and styles to find the one that works for your body.  An essential item is the swim suit cover up.  Opt for a wrap around the waist if you are self conscious about the lower half of your body.  Opt for a tunic in a light weight fabric if the upper half of your body is the area where you lack confidence.  There are so many great options out there that finding the right cover up has become the best part of vacation packing.

The next item that I highly recommend is a dress. Actually - several dresses.  Not only are these the hottest item for Spring/Summer 2007 but they are an easy way to put a complete outfit together quickly and simply.   Opt for a rich cobalt blue or jewel tone.  Pastels are also a popular option this season.  With all of these color palettes at your finger tips, the right one for you is just waiting to be picked up.  Pair with ballet flats, thong sandals or platform sandals to keep the look modern.  Gold or Silver hoop earrings are a great accessory to finish your look and keep it feminine.

Assuming you are going somewhere cool, like Norway or Alaska, you want to feel warm and cozy while still looking chic.  I suggest keeping your color palettes to black and white or navy and white.  Pairing additional bright colors in jewel tones, or bright red, orange, and yellow to make your outfit pop. Sweaters in quality wools and cashmeres, waterproof boots with fuzzy insides to keep your toes warm, and above all a great coat.  For cruising, and side excursions in the cold, I recommend something sporty and warm.

Above all if you are flying to your cruise ship, be sure to bring your own blanket for the ride over.  I take a pashmina shawl for this purpose and for layering over a light wei

Enjoy your vacation ladies…knowing that you look fabulous!
