Happy Valentines Day!
What can we accept as fact around midlife and what can we create as our truth? How can we challenge the outdated and societal views on some of the misconceptions on aging? There, I have used that word: aging. If you were to ask yourself what do I need to allow myself to age gracefully, what might your answer be? Some of the truths around midlife include the fact that hormonal changes of menopause can increase our risk of heart disease; it is the leading killer of women. How can we be proactive around this when at first glance the course seems predetermined?
What is your first guess? Most women know the answer; they think quickly and come up with answers of exercise, eat the foods that will make our heart healthy, and reduce our levels of stress. What I see as good news is that each of these physical areas can impact the others. For instance, if we exercise only, this can reduce our stress level. If we take actions to reduce our stress level, this can have an impact on unhealthy habits of eating to soothe ourselves. If we eat well, we will have better energy for our exercise program; and so on.
The proactive choices augment each other; part of this is because we can think of our bodies as holographic. A hologram means the whole is contained in all the parts. So if we make changes in one area, it makes changes in others. When we take action to improve one area of our physical body, it actually can demonstrate improvement in other areas.
This proactive way of thinking and being can help us in reducing our risks for heart disease. It doesn’t have to be assumed and automatic that we have no impact on our health due to our age. What proactive step can you take that may have far reaching effects for your health in midlife?
With all my heart,
Lorraine
