Go Dark While You Still Can!

There are very few times of the year when dark nails are most appropriate. Luckily winter is one of those times. Many of you have already jumped on the dark, almost black, nail polish trend. Even if black is not your thing, now is the time to enjoy old Hollywood type glamour and imitate it with a dark colored manicure.

First keep your nails shorter in length. Super long dark nails don’t look classy. Give your nails a good trim, file and the required cuticle attention before getting started with your color. Alternatively, tell your manicurist that you want to try something new and go dark. Then explain that you would like to go shorter in length. She will be thrilled at the change and politely tuck away the pale pinks that have been reserved just for you. Personally, I am a big fan of buying and bringing my own polish with me. I know where it has been, how old it is, and that it has only touched my nails.

Now when I say dark it does not mean that everyone should go out and buy Chanel’s latest black colored nail polish. Yes, they are the brand of choice for the extreme trend this season but there are many options out there and black may just not be your thing. If you are fair then opt for something a little less extreme in color like a dark chestnut brown (read- brown with a slight hint of coral). If you are dark then opt for a super rich wine or burgundy color. If you are somewhere in-between play with colors in the store to find one that you love.

Most of all have fun with the change and the feeling of having glamorous nails. Enjoy it while you can and don’t wait long to jump onboard because spring is just around the corner.

Best-
Andrea
