Where Do I Start?
Now that you have some images of what you want to project out to the world and an idea of the styles that you like and don’t like, its time to start your transformation process. We begin by cleaning out, organizing and simplifying your closet. Here’s how…..
First, clean out the old to make room for the new. Stay calm and rational throughout this process. The idea here is to get rid of anything that is falling apart, has holes or stains on it, or is from another decade (read: football player style shoulder pads in a blouse). This should not be a painful experience so if there is something that you love and aren’t quite ready to let go of, put it away for now but don’t donate it just yet. You will know when you are ready to let go. As you walk though this process keep your transition goals in mind but also stay rational, for example, if part of your plan is to lose weight, don’t immediately toss your clothes that are not the ideal size. After all, you need something to wear everyday. Taking this first step will help your transition move forward because you are living, breathing and experiencing the ideal person that you want to become.
The next step is to think about what you do in a day. Include all aspects of your life and all activities. Many people make the mistake of having a great wardrobe in only one area of their life. You want to feel good no matter what you are doing so keep a diary of the activities that you do and the many facets of your “complete” life. From the gym to the PTA meeting, to dinner at the in-laws, to gardening, to skiing, etc. Take one page for each area and put the title of that area on the top of the page. I find the best way to move through this cycle is to take my first crack at the list and then come back to it over a week’s time. I always forget things on the first draft like remembering swimsuit season when you are completing this task in the dead of winter. Make your list whole. Next week we’ll work through each category to get you moving into the new you.
Best-
Andrea
