Shorts

For some of us the thought of putting on shorts is an exciting time. It signifies the start of summer and gorgeous tanned legs.  However, for some, the thought of shorts is like the thought of trying on a bathing suit and nothing but panic and fear set in.  Take heart ladies.  Just about all of us out there aren’t super models and trust me when I say this, there is style out there just for you.

Shorts come in many different styles, lengths and fabrics these days.  From denim to silk and from hot pants to Bermudas, there is short style that works for your body and lifestyle.  Here are some tips to keep in mind when you go shopping for shorts this summer season.

When in doubt chose a mid length short with slight pleats in the front.  This is the most universally flattering style for women.  Be sure to buy a size that fits but is not too tight (i.e. the pleats lie flat and don’t pull at all).  The length should hit about mid thigh and again not pull or fit too tight.

Another great option is the bermuda or city short which is longer in length and has the appeal of a sophisticated pant without all of the length.  This short can even take you to the office provided your work environment is not formal.  Pair with a blazer for a more polished look during the week and a light blouse or tee on the weekend.

When all else fails the final option is the capri pant.  A selection in light cotton can keep you just as cool as a pair of shorts and looking equally stylish.  Be cautious of styles with a widely cut leg if you are short or pear shaped as this may overwhelm your body type.

And…on your way out the door remember to look in the mirror, and smile at that gorgeous reflection looking back at you – in shorts!

Best-
Andrea
