Multitasking To Have Fun

My life has been good, and I am grateful; the last several years have also had an increasingly more serious essence around it. I am not convinced that this has anything to do with aging or the middle age period. This serious essence is a phenomenon of my life that I want to explore.

In last week’s column, I had set the intention to inject fun into what I am already involved in doing. I like the idea of multitasking around this; you will see an example in the next paragraph. If I have to eat dinner already, what is to stop me from inviting a friend to join me? With this notion or intention to make fun happen, I find that I must take the initiative and make it happen.

I have a lovely group of friends, some new, others lifelong, where we meet twice a month to help empower each other. We call it an “Empowerment” group, and a lovely benefit is that we enjoy the company of each other immensely. I decided that it may be fun to add a social dimension so I came up with the idea of a dinner party at my house. (This is my idea of fun, if I allow myself the time to do all that I need to do to make it the way that I want it to be. What I want is to set aside the time to have my house at its best, buy or pick flowers, and plan and cook a nice menu, just to name a few things.)

I will make a mental note to remember that this is my idea of fun, and that I can play during the preparation as well as the actual dinner. I also note that I must set up the situation to make it fun. I do this by being aware of the terms and conditions by which I need to make it a joyous occasion rather than a stressful or tense occasion. To make it as easy as could be I prepped or prepared the day before.

We all had a great time, and I felt so relaxed and happy. But I also felt meaning in the idea of bringing friends together and sharing our thoughts and ideas and aspirations.

Love,
Lorraine
