Childhood Fun
I am still serious about bringing play into my life. When I list my idea of fun and play when I was a child, the outdoor play was physical and consisted of running, walking, skipping, jumping, riding bikes, swinging, swimming, and turning cartwheels. What is possible at this time is:
- the running (at a pace that is uniquely suited to me at this time)
- definitely walking, but with a destination in mind,
- skipping, and
- riding stationary bikes, or spinning ®, and lastly,
- swimming.
The cartwheels will remain in the halls of history.
I haven’t been on an outdoor bike in thirty years; I tried recently but found myself fearful. I am making a mental note to do a retry, with a bike that is set up to my leg length. Other things I would like to revisit would include volleyball, Wally ball, and badminton. The idea of rowing on a lake is appealing.
Again I ask myself three questions, with a little adaptation to this specific occasion.
What do I need to do to put the time for any of these activities into my life? I need to definitely schedule it into my datebook.
Who do I want to share the fun with?
What fears or obstacles do I need to eliminate in order to make the desire a reality? This question is huge, and rich with the excuses, real or unreal, of what holds me back. Whether it be feeling too lethargic, too self conscious, too fearful, or whatever, it is to my benefit to find what is holding me back and eliminate it.
This is a huge concept to consider. I may have to do a challenge around it with my coach!
Do you have some activities you long to do for fun but you find yourself getting in your own way? What is one form of support you can find, and one other step to bring you closer to having fun?
Playfully yours,
Lorraine
