What Are We Waiting For?

All this month I have talked about play and fun; it is important to integrate more fun into our lives if we find it is just a bit too serious. As we move into the last week of June I have to report that this month has been one of fun, with my effort and intention to increase the amount of play and fun, and, gasp, silliness in my life!

I am multitasking by adding fun and play into my valued and meaningful activities!

I spent many hours playing in the dirt with my dear elderly father to get his garden planted. He is eighty nine and knows how to play. He rescued a little red wagon that his neighbor tossed in the trash, pumped up the deflated tires, and made a platform for the wagon that won’t slide off. We used the wagon to move the large clumps of grass and dirt from where we made the garden larger. Together we lifted the clumps off the wagon and put them into a pile we have labeled as compost.

Other areas where I am making the effort to bring more play into my life is to award myself with the time to start my knitting again. I do some easy things like a scarf or small blanket in order to not have to count or measure. I can’t knit complicated things while socializing or watching television. Next goal is to start a walking club in my neighborhood for those who want to get to know more neighbors and get the benefit of movement as well!

Midlife is the perfect time to perfect your play skills. What have you done for fun lately?

Until next month,
Lorraine
