Happy Fourth of July!
This week we celebrate the lovely holiday of Fourth of July, or as it is often called, Independence Day! I love this holiday, for the beautiful significance of the patriotism that is displayed, and also because I take the time to totally stop what I am doing and enjoy the summer.
As a child it meant block parties and fireworks and our own parade on bikes, with red white and blue crepe paper woven through the spokes of the wheels, and little flags on the handle bars.
Now it still signifies the picnics and barbeques, lots of red, white and blue, and it is always an occasion for friends and family to just relax and enjoy the slower pace of summer.
To me summer is also the beginning of enjoying my morning coffee out on my front porch, eating dinner outside, and picking my vegetables from my organic garden. It is also the halfway point for the growing season of my vegetable garden. I never take for granted the beauty and wonder of this growing season. I love the end miracle of the resulting food that ends up on my plate, that months back had just originated from the little seed or seedling that I placed into the ground. It is nourished by the soil, sun and rain.
I am reminded that there is a much bigger plan that allows all this lush beauty we are surrounded by to come from such humble beginnings.
What inspires you this holiday?
Until next week,
Lorraine
