Networking Your Way To Success - Pt 2
This past week you jotted down the names of the people you’d like to have in your network who would think immediately of you when a job opening in your field came along.
But, you may be thinking, I don’t even know these people! True, and we’ll talk about that in a moment. In the mean time, next to each name on your list, make a brief note about why specifically you’d like to meet them.
What is it that attracts you to them?
Here are some ways you can meet ‘Jane Doe’:
- Find someone in your current network who knows ‘Jane Doe’ and ask them
to introduce you. Better yet, offer to treat them both to lunch or coffee. - Do they write articles, books, etc.? Send them a note sharing with
them the value you found from their publication, perhaps the results you achieved from implementing what the shared. - Find out where they network, and attend the same event. Go prepared
with how you’d like to engage in a memorable conversation with them. - Cold call / write them. Why is it that you’d like to meet them? Share
what you admire about them. - Do you know what they are interested in? When you find an article /
book / event that you think they might be interested in, use that as a way to make initial contact.
To expand on #5 above, it’s always nice to think of ways that you can be of service to this person. What do you bring to the table? What are they interested in that you could offer them?
Enjoy connecting!
To your success,
Gwyneth Anne
