Self-Confidence Made Easy - Pt 3
Letting Go of Guilt
As we continue to explore self-confidence this month, let’s take a look at a major barrier to confidence for women: guilt. Guilt is one of the most common roadblocks to career and personal success for women. The vast majority of women I coach struggle with guilt in a very big way. In fact, guilt can be such an overriding force that they make very important decisions based upon it.
Guilt causes many women to:
- Remain in a bad job
- Stay in a bad relationship
- Avoid speaking up for themselves
- Buy things they don’t need, etc.
Giving guilt such power can have serious negative consequences for your career.
One client even shared that she was reluctant to ask for a raise because she would feel terrible making more money than her co-workers.
You cannot be all things to all people. Why guilt-trip yourself? Guilt is merely self-made poison. But there is good news! You possess the antidote.
I suggest you begin with the following: Identify your priorities and eliminate the things that are no longer important to you. Remove obligations that have lost their meaning and replace them with things that satisfy and fulfill you. Ask for help, delegate, automate or let go of tasks you will no longer do.
Next week, I’ll share a specific exercise you can use to banish guilt from your life!
Until next week…
