I attended the most clever and unique networking event recently! It was given by my friend and networker extraordinaire Neen James, who has come to the United States from Australia. She has been the manager of our local eWomen Network in Philadelphia. Neen loves shoes and networking, so she brought the two together in a brilliant blend that included a splash of champagne!

This event was held in a local shoe store called “If The Shoe Fits” in Doylestown, PA.  We caught up with old friends and met new friends, and networked! This was all in the environment of an up scale shoe store. We had champagne and little snacks while we tried on and bought great shoes!

The environment was so conducive to fun and friendships that even if a person didn’t like getting out and networking, this was fun and certainly of interest to all of us. I bought two pairs of shoes (on sale!) and ordered one other pair!

The reason I am bringing this up is that it is a great lesson in the area of business success. We don’t have to be stuck in the usual formal networking groups or Chambers of Commerce. I am not saying there is anything wrong with those venues, especially if you enjoy them and they help you build your business. But if you don’t want to do the usual, then think of creative ways that you can marry the networking and your passion in the same way that Neen did.

If you don’t want to network in the same old way, create a new way!
