What, Me Glamorous?
Over 40……it used to mean old and frumpy, but today’s baby boomer woman, with a lilt in her step and her thinking, is proving that she can still look and feel glamorous in ways that her mother and grandmother never did, even if she can’t stop the aging process.
How are you handling midlife? Do you ever find that little unnerving voice creeping in and taking away your confidence now that you are over forty? What are your assumptions about what it means to be this age?
Studies show that the way we think about aging and the way we age may have a correlation; so it’s crucial to ditch the old ways of thinking we were raised with and open ourselves up to a new way of thinking that allows us to actually be biologically years younger than our chronological age.
Is it unavoidable that your belief system has the message that over forty means old, unattractive and dowdy looking?
Many of us feel resigned to what we think is the inevitable weight gain. We may give up wanting to look good because we don’t fit into, or feel authentic in the trendy clothing styles of youth and we definitely don’t feel ready for the shapeless styles that appear to be the alternative. Then there’s the feeling that we are so old that we are no longer attractive to the opposite sex. Years of putting ourselves last can sap our energy and our confidence.
Fortunately, the vitality we need to bring us gracefully and energetically through our day can be found once again. This vitality begins with calling upon something we have had all our lives, which was which was a little easier in our younger years. That is old-fashioned pride and vanity. We can call on our pride and vanity to pull us forward towards that energy and vitality!
At one time we could cheat on our diet and exercise program and still be full of vibrant confidence just because we were young and felt sensational.
Have you ever sat down and thought about and became aware of just how much you put others and other things first? Looking at your physical body first, what do you need to do to put the needs of your body first? Would it be physicals, preventative tests, hair styling, good food to eat, and exercise? What is one thing you can do right now to get this ball rolling?
Next week we will discuss this idea further.
Until next week,
Lorraine
