Amalaki and Your Health: Part One
New information emerges every day about natural tools for disease prevention. However, some of the most valuable health wisdom available may be age-old. One example is the science of Ayurvedic healing—the oldest medical system in the world. The Ayurvedic approach is a multi-faceted system of diagnosis and treatment including nutrition, hygiene, rejuvenation, and herbal medicine. An important component often included in Ayurvedic healing is a small, edible fruit called emblica officinalis, but more commonly referred to as amalaki, amla or Indian gooseberry. For centuries, amalaki has been classified as a natural anti-aging solution. Certainly, the health-promoting benefits of this versatile fruit are extensive.
Antioxidant Powerhouse
Amalaki is an extremely potent antioxidant, providing a strong defense against the free radicals that constantly and adversely affect your cells. During the past 20 years, more than 30,000 scientific papers have been written about antioxidants and their fight to protect your body from free radical damage, which appears to play a role in nearly every major health issue from heart disease to cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease to arthritis.
