Is The Invite Really Casual?

The invite says casual…what does that really mean? When it comes to open houses and other low key parties around the holidays, what does the host/hostess really mean by casual? Can you really wear your Juicy tracksuit and Uggs? Probably not. Is it time for that bustier you have been longing to find an occasion for? Most likely, it should not make its first appearance…so there you are standing in your closet looking around in anguish. What do you wear? Read on for solutions to “casual”.

Velvet jeans
Both comfortable and stylish these are a great option for “casual”. They show that you made an effort but also know the feel of the party that the host was going for. Pair with a metallic sweater, or solids in cashmere, or cotton. Lastly add some pretty earrings and you are on your way. Simple and painless.

Jewel tones
Your favorite jeans can make an appearance if they are in good shape and look great on you. There’s one catch though – you have to pair them with a silk blouse or long cotton tunic is a jewel tone. Please note that “jewel tone” does not include your Christmas themed sweater from Aunt Francis or the glittery shoulder pad sweater you have been hanging on to since the eighties. Jewel tones are ruby (not fire engine red), teal, and purple. A simple short sleeve silk teal blouse over jeans with diamond hoop earrings and a diamond pendant is a perfect selection for this type of occasion. Pair with strappy heals or dressy boots to complete the look.

Embellishment
Now is the perfect time for that beaded cardigan or fabulous silk cami top. Pair with boot leg trousers in a solid black or neutral to keep the focus on the embellishment and keep your look from coming across as cluttered.

The bottom line here is that there are a ton of options. Keep it simple yet stylish to let your personality show through and feel good about yourself when you are at your party.

Dpn’t forget to look in the mirror and smile with satisfaction at what you see.

Enjoy your Holidays!
