A Health Challenge

I don’t know about you, but I love sugar!  Yes, I, the nutritionist and fitness expert love sugar!  For years, I’ve let myself have a little “sweet treat” every day.  I still believe you need a little indulgence now and then and believe strongly that you should have a clean diet most of the time, but allow yourself a 10% buffer where you cheat!

In January, however (month of resolutions) I decided to eliminate candy/cookies/desserts/chocolate, etc, from my diet for one month.  Surprisingly, it wasn’t that hard.  I kept my eye on February knowing I could have some then.  (02.01.02 @ 12:01 to be exact!).

February came along and I decided to have -0- sweets with 2 of my clients for another month.  Hey, I was already on a roll and now I have to be accountable to my clients and support them!  February is a short month and March is right around the corner.

Now, I am going to commit to no sweets for another month…I know…I’m crazy!  But my challenge to myself here is I want to test the idea of the power of “deciding”…something I talked about a couple of weeks ago.  If we go into anything in our lives with a conviction that we either “will or we wont” and we jump in with both feet…it really is easy, it’s just our minds which tell us it isn’t based on our attitude!  I have heard in many different circles the mantra “it’s easy to make a bad choice…it’s just as easy to make a good one”.

Consider this and recommit (or newly commit) to something concerning your health and jump in with both feet!  Whatever it is, try it for 1 solid week or 1 solid month.  I bet if you jump in, don’t look back and shout it out, you’ll feel great about your decision and it will be easy!

Why Is Water So Important?

Marching to a new beat means taking action and if you are not drinking enough water I urge you to get into action about that immediately.

Tea and Coffee and soft drinks do not count as a replacement for water. SORRY.

Water is the single most important thing we put in our mouths.

Here are six important reasons we must drink water everyday:

1. to regulate our body temperature
2. to keep our vital body parts hydrated
3. to aid nutrients in traveling to our organs
4. to transport oxygen to our cells
5. to remove waste
6. to protect our joints and organs

In addition water fills you up and flushes away those things that keep your cells stagnant. It is so healing. I encourage you to read up on the impact water has on your health and well-being.

What are you waiting for? March right on over to a glass of water right now and drink up.

Some of my clients have complained that it makes them have to use the rest room more often. I say, it is a small price for the benefits. www.LauraFenamore.com

Health and Weight Loss Benefits of Green Tea- Part Two

Considerable research has confirmed green teas’ ability to reduce the odds of developing heart disease and hypertension, while minimizing stroke risk. Moreover, green tea appears to help prevent Type 2 diabetes by promoting healthy glucose metabolism. Clinical studies conducted by Dr. Abdul Dulloo, of the University of Geneva in Switzerland concluded that green tea appears to support weight loss by raising metabolic rates and speeding up fat oxidation. Weight loss benefits were not linked to the relatively small amounts of caffeine found in tea, since the study subjects receiving amounts of caffeine similar to those found in green tea displayed no change in daily calorie output.

The researchers asserted that green tea extracts high catechin polyphenol content may increase levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis (fat burning), where the body burns fat to create heat. Also, green tea’s weight loss benefits—a significant 4% increase in daily calorie expenditure—did not include increased heart rates, unlike many fad products currently available. In short, catechins in green tea appear not only to help burn calories and lower LDL cholesterol, but may also be able to mildly reduce body fat. Try regular or decaf green tea, or green tea extracts, some of which are caffiene-free.
