The Magic of MomMorphisis!
January 8th, 2007
The Balancing Act – When Moms Become
Super Moms Part 2 (a five part series) - continued
The doctor’s initial comments included those
dreaded possibilities of RSV, pneumonia, maybe he swallowed
a toy, and asthma to name a few. I stood protectively
by and watched as they took x-rays, put an IV into my
son’s hand, attached a blood oxygen reader to
his big toe and gave him breathing treatments to calm
his breathing down.
The whole evening seemed to move in slow motion and
there I was singing refrain after refrain of crunchy
munchy honey cakes. My son had been through more in
the first few hours of this experience than I had been
through in my entire life. After four hours, they told
us our son needed to be admitted so they could run more
tests and monitor him throughout the night. When I asked
about us staying with him in the room, I was informed
that only one parent could spend the night. I politely,
yet firmly explained that we would both be staying the
night and we would worry about the accommodations after
my son was admitted and comfortable for the night.
As it turned out they found room for all of us to be
together and we had a wonderful team of doctors and
nurses who were wonderfully polite to us and very good
with our son.
I never knew what I was capable of as a parent until
this moment. Can you remember a time when you found
an inner strength you didn’t know you had?
To Be Continued Next Week…
